PROJECT 1

Reading the Context of Traditional Street

To understand the essence of context in the traditional street in the country, we were required to turn the information relating to culture, religion, lifestyle and the intangible value of our history and story behind it, into understandable graphics such as sketches with annotations.

REFLECTION

Reading the context of a place is kind of looking for treasure in the woods, we need to find the distinctiveness of values, no matter it is tangible or intangible. This project did help me to understand that the context does not just appear in the picture taken of the buildings and views, but also the relationship between the human and the place. I think my drawings need to show more details about the values and be more informative through the drawings.

INFOGRAPHIC

REFLECTION

Through the research and lecture provided, the knowledge of construction using different types of materials become familiar to me and realize that safety is always the major concern to choose material being used in the construction. A good design should have well-selected material that fit the requirement and also last for a long period of time. Since that buildings work in the time flows and need to be reliable, materiality is the key elements that need to be considered carefully at the design stage of buildings.

REFLECTION

Through the practice of creating effective infographics, I had learnt about the techniques to tell the story using pictures and diagrams with proper annotations.I think that the skills are really helpful as not only the skills had been taught, but also the understanding of Vernacular Malay architecture being reinforced. I think more practice needed in the future as it's a important skill, the organization of graphics and information interfere the outcome of observers directly and the intention of creator need to be shown carefully through the infographics.

REFLECTION

For me, I think the research is rigorous work as we need to be really careful and prove the consistency of information over and over again. Therefore, the framework is taking an important role in supporting the whole process and make sure the topic is related. Based on the research we completed, there is a lot of information related to the topic but we need to filter the useful information which can be explained with the local context. The context is unique and we do need to appreciate the value in the traditional street and introduce it to the public through presentation and poster.
